What's Cooking?

“Cooking with kids is not just about ingredients, recipes, and cooking. It’s about harnessing imagination, empowerment, and creativity.” ~ Guy Fieri

What's Cooking? (formally Cooking with Kimberly) is a program developed by the Hastings Youth Council and coordinated by Council adult volunteers. It is held once a month for approximately ten village middle school students who assemble as a family unit to learn how to prepare and eat healthy foods through food preparation, cooking, and eating . This is also an intimate time to share thoughts, opinions, philosophies, and laughter and not only teaches tenets of good nutrition and cooking skills, but also is an opportune time to connect with peers and mentors. At the same time, it serves as a tool to empower those that might feel disconnected or disenfranchised and provide a forum to express creativity, imagination, and undiscovered talents. The evening ends with setting of the table, enjoyment of a sit-down meal, clean-up, and "doggie bags" for all.
