Hastings Food Pantry
There are genuinely sufficient resources in the world to ensure that no one, nowhere, at no time, should go hungry.-- Ed Asner
The Youth Council believes that no one in our community should go hungry. We have mobilized our local resources to stock our Hastings Food Pantry located at the James Harmon Community Center lower level. This is a no-ask service for those who find it difficult to find enough food to put on the table. The pantry is stocked by the generous support of local organizations including Family-to-Family's programs such as Kids Can and Doorknob Dinners; food drives by other organizations such as Scouts, Hastings Teachers Union, religious organizations; and donations by generous individuals. The Food Pantry supplies foods to approximately 40 families a month which continues to unfortunately increase. It is especially convenient to order food via Amazon prime which can be delivered directly to the pantry https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/RHWC07F7Q41R?ref_=wl_share.
The pantry is typically stocked with pastas and sauces, canned tuna, assorted canned beans, canned vegetables and dry cereals. Seasonally, fresh vegetables and eggs are available on a regular basis. The pantry is operated by the Youth Advocate Program and is open during their regular hours Monday-Thursday 9am-7pm, Friday 9am-10pm and Saturday 12-7pm. During the summer, there are no weekend hours--only Monday-Thursday 9am-6pm, Friday 9am-10pm.
***During the COVID-19 pandemic, the pantry is open only on Wednesdays by appointment
